Once upon I time I used to have a carpet that matched my cat:

But this week I have been mostly swapping those 70s swirls for something a little more modern.

After a dusty friday night of full-on carpet destruction I awoke early on Saturday morning to prepare for the arrival of team-laminate.

They taught me the ancient art of floor fitting and we spent a productive weekend measuring, cutting, shaping, clicking and hammering our way to better room.

Just like any massive jigsaw of plain brown wood it was very exciting getting down to the last piece, and naturally I had to be the one to fit it.

This also proves that I was actually doing some work and not just taking photos. Check out those jeans - that's proper-diy that is.

With the floor fully laid by Sunday afternoon the team left me with a hammer, saw and a funny-angle cutting block and the full responsibility of finishing the edges!

Fully prepared for this all to go horribly wrong from this point on, I started by setting up a professional work area:

I'm still haunted by memories of woodworking failures from my schooldays, alway a source of great amusement, but seeing these tools now I realised that I'd never had to face the prospect of having something that I've made form part of my house before.

Uh-oh

It probably should've been easy, but I was having a little trouble with the hammering...

And a piece of wall was missing....

But I carried on anyway and now its pretty much finished.
Looks better, I think:
(Cat doesn't match anymore though.)
